In the quiet of the valley six intimate Studios await, each with a great vista of the ever-changing beauty of Crete’s nature. Here, simplicity equals luxury. Each studio has a large partly shaded patio and the transition between indoor and outdoor living is seamless. The building is organically integrated in the surrounding nature and invites you to appreciate the moment – enjoy tranquility and connect with the land.
In the large 12 by 5 meters infinity pool you can start the day with a swim or cool down on hot summer days.
The studios and apartments offer a balance of comfort and function with cocomat mattresses and pillows, small well equipped kitchens providing everything to prepare simple meals. The building with all six units is also perfect to be rented entirely by a group.
The word “Meraki” means doing something with love and care – and that’s the spirit of this place.

Whether you are looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life or want to experience the beauty of Crete in its purest form, with us you will find the perfect balance between relaxation and adventure.
Explore some of the most beautiful beaches on the rural south coast like Ligres and Triopetra about a 25 minute drive away, or dive into Rethymno’s vibrant dining and culture in half an hour. You can wander nearby villages or hike the stunning Psiloritis National Park. Spili which is just an eight minutes drive from Meraki Studios offers a quaint charm, a famous fountain and all the essentials like a supermarket, a local farmers market, a bakery, a pharmacy and a medical center.

At Meraki Studios, Sigurd Larsen’s vision is brought to life through the raw elegance of concrete, an exposed skeleton that stands proudly as a three-dimensional grid. This structure, shaped by the land, mirrors the rugged form of an abstract rock, it’s cool stone walls crafted from the earth itself, offering a refuge from the Mediterranean sun. Over time, the lichen’s colourful whispers will gently embrace the buildings, merging them with the landscape in a delicate dance of nature and architecture. Each apartment, a cave of serenity, opens to sweeping views, its carefully placed windows inviting the beauty of the valley and distant mountains inside.

The large 6500 m² garden surrounding the building is a green paradise, filled with old olive, oak, fig, nut and all kinds of fruit trees. Various terraces offer different experiences: one has a 12 m x 5 m infinity pool built into the existing stone wall, some offer panoramic views, and others provide solitude in cozy corners defined by ancient stone walls. These terraces invite guests to relax, unwind, and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of this former agricultural landscape.
Among the locals the plot goes by the name of Tsikalaria. It used to be cultivated by a man who had a reputation to be particularly knowledgeable of plants. We want to honour this heritage. So besides planting and tending to trees we are beginning to cultivate a vegetable garden. It’s an organic process - so feel invited to participate. The vision is for our guests to hand pick and enjoy fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs themselves.
